Brian Kaplan is a medical doctor and a
classical homeopath. This means that he
aims to prescribe a single remedy
for a patient with a problem at any particular
time. Many homeopathic remedies available
today are actually ‘complexes’ which
means they consist of a combination of
many different homeopathic remedies, often
in a variety of potencies. Classical homeopaths
tend not to use these complexes for many
reasons, not least of which is that they
tend to be matched more to conditions than
to the whole person.
Many patients are attracted to classical
homeopathy in the first place not because
of the results promised, but by the empathic
approach shown by the homeopath in the
clinic. What is it exactly about homeopaths
and homeopathy that encourage this sort
of atmosphere in the homeopathic clinic?
In classical homeopathy the relationship
between homeopath and patient is paramount.
This is because the homeopath needs to
understand not only the problem the patient
presents with but also how he functions
as a whole. Homeopathy and homeopathic
remedies function as an holistic stimulus
to nudge the body into healing itself.
In orthodox medicine it is possible to
address the illness or disease in isolation,
but in classical homeopathy this is not
possible. The homeopath must endeavour
to discover as much as possible about his/her
patient during any particular homeopathic
consultation.
At the end of the consultation a homeopathic
remedy will usually be prescribed. The
remedy may be in liquid, powder or tablet
form and patients are always given clear
instructions on how to take remedies.
TAKING HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES:
All remedies should be taken at least
5 minutes after eating or brushing one’s
teeth. Remedies can be taken at any time
of the day.
Powders: Open the sachet
and empty the fine powder into the mouth,
preferably under the tongue.
Pills: Don’t handle
the pills. Tip one into the lid of the
bottle then tip into mouth and suck it
until it dissolves.
Liquids: Empty the required
amount of drops into a small glass of water
(eg a wine glass) and swallow.
